Uasin Gishu Environment Water and Natural Resources CeC Mary Njogu and her Health counterpart Everlyn Rotich, led the exercise in conjunction with students from the University of Eldoret and neighbouring primary schools and members of the public.

The exercise dubbed 'My Environment, My Health' saw the cleaning of West Market, Mwanzo and areas around the entire West Market.

Njogu said the County's commitment in making the entire county clean to eventually raise the already high standards it has set not only within the country but also to other countries citing Uganda which recently came over for bench marking.

"We will not only conserve the environment through garbage collection. We also need to plant trees and in that connection, during the April rainy season, we are going to distribute trees to be planted all over the County in schools, institutions and water catchment areas," said Njogu on Sunday.

"As a County, we have decided to work with you young people because of the experience you posses and also, we need to create the best environment for you and your future," she added.

On her part, Health CeC Rotich applauded the students and pupils who turned up for the exercise saying it means a lot to them in their present and in the future.

"Environmental neatness goes hand in hand with our health. If we keep the environment clean, we definately will have reduced chances of diseases in the society," said Rotich.

The County government has been working round the clock to see to it that Eldoret follows up in the footsteps of Rwanda's Capital Kigali.

Towards the end of last year, the National Assembly started the process of making Eldoret a City.
