Two children drowned in a dam in a village in Marsabit County following heavy rains experienced in the county.
Marsabit Central deputy county commissioner Joseph Nyakwara who confirmed the incident said the two children identified as Wario Galgallo, aged 11 and Mohamed Denge aged 9 drowned in a dam at Iriman-Duresa village in Sagante location of the sub-county.
Mr Nyakwara said the dam was deep following heavy rains that pounded the area.
He said that they suspect the two boys who were standard one pupils at Mwangaza primary school went to play in the water without knowing its depth.
The deputy county commissioner further said that the children were reported missing before community members began a search in the area.
Their bodies were found floating in the dam several hours after the search began and the matter reported at the police station.
“The two boys drowned in the dam which has formed from rainwater in an area with the propensity of collecting a mass of water,” said Mr Nyakwara.
Mr Nyakwara asked parents to take care of their children now that students are on holiday and the county is experiencing heavy rains.
