The children had gone to the river to fetch some water and take a bath when the incident occurred.

Confirming the incident, area assistant Chief Daniel Muthoka said that the two children had gone to the river unaccompanied hence they could not easily be rescued.

“We received the information about the incident and we rushed to the scene and with the help of police from Masinga we managed to retrieve the bodies of the victims. I urge parents to ensure that they do not involve young children in risk errands that can result to injuries or death,” said Muthoka.

Muthoka said that one of the children was a Nursery school pupil in a nearby primary school and was aged 6 years.

“The other victim was a young brother to the Nursery-school-one. The river had deep masses of water and all the people even adults should take caution when coming close to the water,” said the chief.

The bodies of the victims were taken to Matuu Nursing Home mortuary.
