The officers are said to have released alcohol brewers after receiving Sh30,000 only for a disagreement to arise over how the amount could be shared.

This prompted one of the officers to cut his colleague on the head, arm and shoulder.

That prompted another police officer to pick up a panga and slashed the aggressor inflicting serious injuries on him before being taken to different hospitals for fear that they will attack each other again should they be taken to the same hospital.

However, Kisumu North OCPD Peter Omanwa downplayed the incident saying that the police had a small disagreement before attacking one another.

"They did not attack each other as severely as people are claiming. They simply had a few bruises," Omanwa was quoted by a local daily.

Mr Omanwa further denied claims that the two officers had disagreed over a bribe.
