A two days old baby was on Friday rescued alive from a toilet in Ekalakala, Machakos County.
Residents were forced to demolish the toilet before they could rescue the baby boy safely.
Ekalakala area chief Timothy Nzioa said the people who stay in the plot where the baby was dumped heard a baby cry at night.
Although they did not wake up up at the time, the cries were heard when they woke up in the morning. When they investigated, they realised the cries were coming from a toilet.
Nzioka said the baby was rushed to Ekalakala health centre for specialised treatment.
“We have managed to rescue the baby alive. He his a boy and we have rushed him to Ekalakala Health centre for treatment,” Nzioka said.
“The residents said they didn’t know the owner of the baby,” Nzioka said. He said investigations have been launched to establish the woman who dumped the baby and why she chose to dump tit.
The chief has warned women in the area over dumping their children saying that stern action will be taken against any woman who violates the rights of a child in any way.
