A somber mood has engulfed residents of Kondele in Kisumu County after a fire razed down part of Dream City nightclub leaving two dead and scores injured. 

Confirming the incident, Kisumu county police Chief John Kamau said that the cause of the fire is yet to be established. 

The fire started at around 4am on Wednesday, and firefighters are still battling with the flames, Nation has reported.

Four revelers were saved from the club during the rescue operation at the club. 

Two bodies burned beyond recognition have been pulled out of the building by firefighters in the club located Kondele-Kibos road. The public and fire fighters have combined efforts in a bid to rescue the victims of the fire. 

Deputy Governor Mathews Owili and other officials from the county government have been spotted at the scene of the incident. 

Mr Francis Aluko, a witness, told the press that they mysterious fire started when they were dead asleep "We heard a bang and came only to find the guesthouse on fire," Mr Aluoko said. 

A number of revelers are feared to be trapped in the building according to the Nation.
