Two people were on Sunday reported dead after a car they were travelling in was involved in a grisly accident at Sobea, Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
According to traffic base commander Mishanze Thoya, the accident occured at 1 am involving a North Rift Shuttle Matatu and a Toyota Harrier.
Among the victims is a three-year-old child who was in the matatu, and a woman who was in the car died instantly.
“The Toyota Harrier, heading to Nakuru, was overtaking other vehicles when it collided with the matatu was ferrying passengers to Eldoret,” said Mr Thoya.
More than 12 people escaped with injuries and were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital and the Evans Sunrise Hospital in Nakuru Town for treatment.
A nurse at Nakuru Level Five Hospital confirmed seven patients admitted had been admitted there and were responding well to treatment.
The accident occurred barely a week after two other people died in another crash involving a matatu and a lorry at the Salgaa black spot.
Cases of road accidents have been on the rise, especially along the 12-kilometre stretch from Sobea through Salgaa to Kibunjia on Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
