Two women on Thursday died while several other passengers sustained injuries after a matatu they were traveling in was involved in an accident at Odongo junction along the Bondo-Usenge Road in Siaya.
According to an eye witness, the matatu was heading to Usenge from Bondo town when it veered off the road before rolling severally times killing the two women on the spot.
"The driver to the matatu which was on high speed, wanted to stop. I think he wanted to drop a school kid who was to alight at the junction but he lost control and swerved off the road,'' said a witness.
Bondo OCPD, Paul Kiarie confirmed the incident and cautioned motorists against over speeding.
Kiarie said motorists should drive carefully since they carry innocent lives.
The injured were rushed to Bondo sub county hospital.
Bodies of those who died were also taken to the same hospital's mortuary.
