Two men died on Thursday when a speeding lorry ran over a parked saloon car along Garissa road, Makongeni in Thika sub-county.
The car’s occupants were allegedly taking snacks when the lorry ran over them killing the two men on the spot.
Eyewitnesses said the lorry came across them after the driver lost control and getting on the wrong lane causing the accident.
“It came too fast and started moving from side to side causing the vehicles to hit others as they stopped instantly. The car which was parked had no space to move out,” a witness explained.
Confirming the incident, Thika Sub-county traffic police base commander Francis Muthamia said that the lorry driver caused the accident and ran away leaving the two deceased on the road.
“We did not find the lorry driver and it is clear he ran away after causing the accident. We are investigating his whereabouts and he will be prosecuted immediately we arrest him,” Muthamia said.
The lady who escaped death is in critical condition in Mt. Sinai hospital Thika.
