Two people died Thursday night after a lorry plunged into the stony Kaiti River bed near Wote Town, Makueni County.

Another person was seriously injured following the accident.

The lorry driver is said to have attempted to overtake another vehicle at the bridge when it hit metal rails and plunged into the river bed.

The injured was rushed to Makueni County Referral Hospital while bodies of the two were taken to the hospital’s mortuary.

"We have rescued one person but unfortunately two people have been crushed inside the cabin," Francis Mutuku, a Makueni MCA who witnessed the accident told Nation.
