Two teenagers met their death Monday evening on the Garissa highway near BAT when a speeding truck ran over a motorcycle they had parked near the road.
The two students were doing the bodaboda business, after school, when the met their death, witnesses said.
According to witnesses, the two brothers were waiting for clients when the fast moving truck lost control and hit them from behind, killing them immediately.
"The truck was on a high speed and none seemed to notice the oncoming vehicle from behind. They were hit and died instantly," Jonah Musembi, a bodaboda operator, explained.
"The drivers on this road have a tendency of hooting anyhow and it’s hard for us to notice when they are serious," he added.
Thika sub-county traffic police base commander Francis Muthamia, while confirming the incident, said that they have arrested the driver of the truck for interrogation and they plan to prosecute him if find reasonable grounds of culpability.
"The driver is in police custody and we will arraign him in court if found guilty. I urge road users to be cautious more so at the highways to avoid such incidents occurring again," Muthamia said.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to General Kago Road mortuary.
