Two people died on the spot in a grisly road accident on Mombasa Road Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred at Lukenya, a few metres from National Cement Company Limited in Athi River town.

The accident involved a truck belonging to Steel General Wholesalers that was ferrying bags of cement from Athi River based National Cement Company Limited, commonly known as Simba Cement, to Machakos town and a trailer owned by Shakti Carriers Limited, which was transporting iron sheets from Mombasa to Nairobi.

Those who died were drivers of the vehicles, while a turn boy of the truck escaped death with serious injuries.

Wangoi Mwai, an eyewitness, said the truck was speeding before its driver lost control of it resulting to a head on collision between the two vehicles.

Mwai said the truck hit the trailer’s cabin with great impact on the driver’s side leading to the deaths.

The injured turn boy was taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the slain drivers were taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary, while the wreck of the vehicles were towed to Athi River Police Station.
