Two people died on Thursday evening in a head-on collision at Giampampo, Maara constituency in Tharaka Nithi.
Meru South deputy police boss John Kilonzo said the accident involved a private car and a lorry which were heading in opposite directions.
According to the Star, Kilonzo said the private car veered off the road after the collision.
He identified the driver as Peter Mawira, adding that he died on the spot, while one of his passengers succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatement at the Chogoria Mission hospital.
Their bodies were taken to Chuka and Chogoria hospital mortuaries.
The other six passengers in the car were admitted to the same hospital for treatment.
Kilonzo urged drivers to adhere to traffic rules and avoid speeding and also be cautious when overtaking.
