Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi led a team from the county government in assessing the status of the completed ECDE centres that was commissioned to be constructed within various wards in the county.
He confirmed that building works had been completed in Likoni primary school ECDE and Kadzandani primary school ECDE while Longo primary school ECDE and Utange primary school ECDE was 90% complete.
"The facilities have been fitted with suitable infrastructure to support the physically challenged children and make learning enjoyable for our children," he said, adding that the county government would partake to construct more ECDE centres within the wards and recruit more teachers to ensure efficiency and give the children the opportunity to access education as a basic need.
Likoni centre became the second ECDE out of 8 that were being constructed by the County government to be completed. The site was handed to the contractor on January 27, 2015.
The Likoni ECDE centre is fitted with state of the art facilities and furniture to provide dignified teaching and learning to pupils ranging from 6 standard size spacious classrooms, play courts, kitchen and dining hall, sickbay, staffroom, lavatories for teachers and children, administration block with the head teachers and secretaries office, stores, water points and rainwater harvesters.
"Doors will be open for teaching at the center as soon as the furniture is arranged."
Also present was Chief Officer from the Department of Education and Children Tuni Mwalukumbi, Sub County Administration, senior officers, teachers and Members of County Assembly.
