Shiphrah Wambui, a two feet tall woman, has given birth at Naivasha sub-county hospital.
The 23-year-old woman delivered the boy who weighed 2.6kg bringing the maternity wing at the hospital to standstill as patients, nurses and the local rushed to get a glimpse of the woman.
Wambui was admitted at the hospital three days ago and doctors told her that she had to deliver through a caesarean section due to her height.
Her husband Peter Karanja said that they have been married for two years now.
“I am very happy for the birth of our first son. Many people in my estate did not believe that my wife could give birth due to her height but I now thank God because I am a proud father. My friends and relatives were very unhappy when I announced that I was going to marry Sifra,” said Karanja.
Dr Joseph Mburu, the hospital's medical superintendent, said that Sifra did not attain the normal required nine-month gestation period.
“She suffers from a rare condition that involves defects in or damage to a developing foetus. The boy is in good health and can survive under normal circumstances,” said Mburu.
