Joycelina Montenegro and Teddy Varfley appeared before principal magistrate Charity Oluoch and charged with forging tickets to the Hakuna Matata festival held at Migaa area in Kiambu.

In the first count, the two were charged with forgery contrary to section 349 of the penal code. In the second count, the two were charged with making documents without authority contrary to section 357(a) of the penal code.

The court heard that one Vanessa Njeri, who was a classmate of Montenegro, purchased four tickets for the events from the accused. Two of the tickets cost Njeri Sh1,200 and the other two cost Sh1,500.

However, Njeri was to be disappointed at the gate with three of her friends after their tickets were invalidated by the manager of the event.

The tickets were being sold at Sh1,500 advance and Sh2,000 at the gate. The two were arrested by AP police officers attached to Mbo-i-Kamiti police post and escorted to the Kiambu police station.

The two denied the charges and were each released on a cash bail of Sh50,000 and a surety of Sh100,000. They were also required to deposit their travel passports in the court.

Montenegro is a student at Nairobi International School and an Angolan native while Varfley is a student from USIU and a Liberian native.

Their case will be heard on October 29.
