Two men suspected of forging premium insurance documents that were to be allegedly used in duping county officials were on Wednesday charged before a Nakuru court.
The accused persons, Martin Nzumbua together with Laban Ngunjiri appeared before Chief Magistrate David Kemei and charged that on April 15 in Nakuru county jointly conspired to defraud three Nakuru County officials a sum of Sh30,000 which they denied.
The two who masqueraded as Old Mutual Insurance sales persons are accused of uttering premium contribution forms in duping Joyce Towett, Rose Akinyi and Jeff Waro who are county officials to submit monthly contributions to the company.
According to the police, the accused persons forged the documents directing the Human Resource Manager to the county of Nakuru to deduct monthly dues from the officials and submit the same to an unofficial bank account.
Prosecution side led by Hillary Songoyo told the court that the accused persons are believed to be a group of cartel working to defraud civil servants in the county without their knowledge.
The two were arrested after a series of complaints made by the three officials at Nakuru Central Police station and investigations immediately launched.
The accused persons through their lawyer urged the court to release their clients on a reasonable bond terms terming the offence as bailable.
Chief Magistrate David Kemei later released the accused persons on a bond of sh 100,000 or an alternative cash bail of sh 30,000.
Hearing of the matter was slated for August 1.
