Two gas vendors have been arrested and their businesses closed for operating without licenses in Gituamba Township.

The area director of energy and regulatory commission Jackline Muthoni confirmed the arrest on Monday midday in Gituamba.

According to Muthoni, the two vendors were situated in opposite locations and on seeing uniformed police officers accompanied by the officer began to close the business. The two were unfortunately arrested before they completed their business closure and two gas cylinders with vapour and gas confiscated.

Muthoni noted that she had issued a warning notice late in 2015 to all gas vendors operating without licenses and urged them to comply with the law before January.

She revealed that the gas license was only going for Sh3,500 per year and there would be no excuse for the vendors not to cooperate.

"We have today arrested two gas vendors, Jane Kagiri and Moses Gitau two of who were operating the gas selling business without licenses from our commission. Gitau had two cylinders full of gas and vapour which is illegal. We gave a warning to all vendors in late December and urged all to comply," she said.

"The two suspects will serve as a lesson to the others who on seeing us tried to go underground," she said.

She revealed that the commission was ready to listen to residents complaints and urged them to submit information of any unscrupulous business person operating in the energy industry from the area.
