Chepwony said the project will pose a threat to the region's environment.

“We are not opposing it permanently but should it be set, we must be assured of safety and people of Kericho must also benefit,” Chepkwony said.

Speaking on separate occasions, in Kericho and Bomet the duo stressed on the environmental effects that will result from its construction .

The government earlier this year announced the construction of the dam expected to supply clean water to Molo, Njoro, Rongai, Naivasha and Nakuru towns.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to commission the construction of the dam later this year with initial works on the site already having commenced commenced.
