Wiper Party is no doubt the most influential political outfit in Ukambani. Interestingly, the party did not win all the seats as expected. Kalonzo has however, remained a force to reckon with in the entire region. Here are two governors who defied the former Vice President to win seats in the August General election.
Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu
Charity Ngilu proofed to the nation that she is indeed an iron lady. The firebrand county boss went against Kalonzo’s wish to bag the seat after mounting massive campaigns across the county. Kalonzo had backed Wiper’s Dr. Julius Malombe. Former Senator David Musila also contested for the seat but he lost. Ngilu has, however, continued to stand with Kalonzo as he looks forward to rising to power in 2022. Together with other leaders from Ukambani, Ngilu has affirmed that she will rally the electorate behind Kalonzo until he becomes the President of this nation when that time comes.
Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua
When Mutua defected from Wiper to form Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement, many thought that his days were numbered. Today, he remains one of the most influential county bosses in the nation. The former government spokesman has also hinted at contesting for the nation’s top seat in 2022.
