Sources indicated that Alex Ndumbiri, a lorry driver, and Benson Ongamu, a barber, were arrested by police from Teachers police post after they were accused by a funeral committee of swindling over Sh10,000 by forging records during a contribution drive towards meeting funeral expenses.

A committee member, Mary Nyambura, told our reporter that the two conspired to defraud the funeral money after they were kept in charge of keeping the money and records of the fund. She said the rest of the committee members alerted police after they discovered that the accused had allegedly altered and doctored the contributions records.

“We were amazed how only Sh5,000 could be raised in more than a week yet we had been monitoring how members of the public and relatives had been contributing. So far we had not demanded for any money from the kitty but records have been altered to give false information,’’ said Nyambura.

She said the two held two separate contribution records to provide wrong information while failing to indicate the exact amount of money they received.

Police officer in charge of Teachers police post, Mercy Musyoka, confirmed the incident and said police were carrying out investigations into the matter after arresting the duo at a drinking joint.
