Two people from Nyaronge village were rushed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment after consuming raw meat believed to be from a cow that had died of mysteriously.

Several others were treated and discharged from Riakworo health center with the local administration working hard to arrest the owner of the caucus.

Speaking to this reporter at Riakworo dispensary on Friday, Riamoni Assistant Chief Sambu Bosire confirmed the incident and warned residents against taking meat that had not been satisfied fit for consumption.

“It is disappointing that our people never learn from mistakes. We experienced a similar scenario in 2010 and lost two lives. We have health professionals who satisfy meat for consumption and therefore I really condemn the ignorance,” he said.

Sambu said the extreme cases had been rushed for treatment at Kisii Level Six by an ambulance from Nyamira County and asked those responsible to surrender to authorities.

“I am happy that the county government took the two for further checkups and I want to urge the owner of the caucus to show up before we catch up with him,” he said.

According to a victim, the meat was being sold at a throw away price with a kilo said to be going at Sh50 instead of Sh300 from a butchery.

“I am lucky that I have survived from severe stomach pains. I was particularly moved by the fact that they were selling it at a low cost and no one could miss that. But we noticed a problem when at least three from my family complained of stomach pains,” said Peter Oturi.
