Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu announced this on Wednesday, as the county moves to contain a situation that is almost going out of hand.

In measures aimed at curbing the spread of the disease, Mailu has further ordered retesting of food handlers to ensure they meet the required standards.

He has warned that many more hotels risk closure by the government, after food handlers were ordered to acquire new certification within 21 days following increased cases of cholera outbreak within the country.

There are set conditions for the issuance of the certificates, with the county health department insisting they will only issue once the hotels staff and premises are tested and found to comply with set health standards.

Kenyatta National Hospital had received about 70 patients by Tuesday evening, some in critical condition and overflowing from the isolation of wards.

The county is grappling with the outbreak, which has affected people from different areas.

Last week, two government officials were rushed to hospital, after eating contaminated food at the KICC during an open forum.

However, the county is promising to contain the disease.
