Two people have been arraigned before a court in Eldoret after being accused of forging a birth certificate.
The two, Kibet Tarus and Ezra Kimutai were taken to court after being arrested with a forged birth certificate bearing the name Emma Kipkemei. Police said they committed the crime on March 15.
It is not yet known why they forged the documents that is always a requirement for applying for a national identity card or passport.
According to the prosecution, Tarus and Kimutai face two charges of forging the document without the knowledge of Ms. Kipkemei as well as forging the signature of the county Registrar of Persons Marabi Oisebe.
Tarus denied the charges and was released on a Sh100,000 bond while Kimutai admitted to having committed the crime and now awaits full hearing of the case.
Police who produced the two in court said they were nabbed in Eldoret town during a swoop and when the law enforcers conducted a search on them, they found the forged document in the bag the two carried.
They were taken to the Eldoret Police Station for interrogation where officers verified the document was not genuine.
The government has of recent stepped up efforts for all Kenyans to have birth certificates.
Their case will be heard on March 22.
