Two men were on Tuesday arraigned in a court in Nakuru to face charges of stealing green vegetables from a neigbour’s farm.
The prosecution desk told the court, under the precision of Chief Resident Magistrate James Mwaniki, that the accused; John Kamau,34, and Edga Omari,29, both casual employees at Cameleon Camp in Njoro and who live together in a single roomed residential house at Kwa Mwaura estate, were found harvesting Kales and beans’ green leaves from a farm belonging to one Dishon Muraya on the night of May 10.
The prosecution told the court that the two, who are also bachelors, had formed a habit of illegally entering the complainant’s farm after drinking sprees in the wee hours of the night, before indulging in an illegal activity of stealing vegetables they used to make meals.
The court further heard that the accused had harvested about two kilogrammes of the said vegetables, before they were nabbed by the farm’s owner, who had laid a trap after other residents tipped him.
The magistrate was told that the suspects were arrested by police from Njoro police station the following day, after the complainant, accompanied by witnesses recorded a statement with the police.
The accused however denied the charges and were released on a cash bond of Sh15,000 each.
The case resumes for hearing on June 17.
