Jubilee and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters clashed Sunday morning in Kilifi County, leaving two with serious injuries.
They clashed along Kaloleni-Mazeras highway ahead of a rally that was to take place in Rabai Constituency.
Trouble started after a group led by Kilifi Deputy Governor Kennedy Kamto tried to block the highway, leading to a meeting organised by Governor Amason Kingi.
The deputy governor decamped to Jubilee Party from ODM a fortnight ago.
He accused Governor Kingi (ODM) of dictatorship and planning to disrupt the Rabai rally.
ODM supporters attacked Jubilee's and asked them to keep off the road.
This resulted in a fight.
A Jubilee supporter reportedly threw a stone at the ODM crowd, leaving one of them with a head injury.
The angered ODM supporters smashed Kamto’s car after realising one of them was injured.
They then frogmarched the Jubilee supporter, who they claimed hurled the stone that hit one of their own.
Governor Kingi supporters wore t-shirts with the message 'Rabai hatubanduki ODM (ODM will not move out of Rabai)'.
The Jubilee supports on the other hand were carrying banners written "Kwaheri Kingi. Sahau kura za Rabai (Goodbye Kingi. Forget Rabai votes).
Governor Kingi condemned the incident, saying Jubilee supporters had sensed defeat ahead of the August polls.
His deputy, Kamto, accused him of failing to deliver in Rabai constituency since he was elected in 2013.
