Two people were on Monday injured after the lorry they were travelling in ran over an explosive in Nyongoro in Lamu.

Confirming the 6.30 am suspected Al-Shabaab attack, Coast regional police boss Larry Kieng said the lorry ran over the landmine along the Garsen-Lamu road.Joseph Kanyiri, who is Linda Boni Security Operation director, said security personnel have been dispatched to pursue the attackers.His statement was reiterated by Lamu County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo who said police were on the ground “assessing the situation”.Gunshots were heard at the incident scene after the attack.The lorry was travelling from Malindi towards Lamu Mokowe jetty to collect fish.Those injured were taken to Witu hospital for treatment.No one died during the incident.Lamu has been experiencing a series of suspected Al-Shabaab attacks since 2016.
