The Naivasha law court has sentenced two men to a two-year jail term for possessing buffalo meat.
The two men were charged by their own plea of guilty by Naivasha senior principal magistrate Peter Gesore. The prosecution was told that on July 25 this year, Charles Odhiambo and Njoroge Gathu were found with the meat at Kihoto area of Naivasha.
The meat was approximated to be at least ten kilogrammes by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers.
The prosecution told the court that the two were arrested by KWS officers following a tip off from members of the public, who suspected the source of the meat in their possession
Odhiambo and Gathu admitted the offence, saying that they were sorry for the act.
Justice Gesore, however, dismissed the plea saying it was wrong for the two to kill wildlife for their own advantage.
The judge added that wildlife was to be respected and supposed to benefit all the citizens and not just a few individuals.
