Murang’a branch of Jubilee Party on Saturday indefinitely suspended two party officials following a public brawl by Members of County Assembly (MCA’s).
The Interim Chairman, Simon Kamau Gikuru and the leader of the Jubilee party caucus in the assembly, Charles Mwangi will not handle party business until they will be investigated about the incident that took place on Friday in a Kiambu hotel.
Secretary, Samuel Macharia speaking after meeting other officials at Kenol market said the interim chairman misled the MCAs by calling for the meeting which was meant to change leadership in the county assembly.
He said the chairman together with the county assembly caucus leader went against the procedures and guidelines of the party by trying to remove the MCAs from assembly committees.
Francis Muheria was appointed branch chairman in an acting capacity until investigations behind the fracas are established.
Macharia backed by the branch organizing secretary, Peter Mbogo said the local officials have also formed a seven-member committee to investigate the ugly incident where some MCAs where attacked and injured.
“We have nominated seven members who will investigate the incident. We want to know the culprits behind the illegal meeting and the fracas,” observed Macharia.
He added the names have been forwarded to the national secretary, Raphael Tuju to endorse the committee start the investigations and propose further disciplinary measures.
“The incident was very shameful to supporters of Jubilee party and Kenya as a whole and we condemn it at strongest words possible,” said
Macharia.
On Friday 30 MCAs converged in a Kiambu hotel purportedly to change leadership in the local assembly where a fistfight erupted after those who were against the meeting arrived.
