Kisumu, is no doubt, one of the county's that spins the fulcrum of Kenyan politics owing to the huge number of registered voters.
The county is considered an opposition stronghold and is currently under the leadership of Governor Anyang' Nyong'o.
Nyong'o has fought many battles and his decision to vie for the Kisumu gubernatorial seat in the last election is considered as preparation to retire.
Should the Governor retire in 2022, here are the two possible politicians who could suceed him:
1.Fred Outa
The former Nyando MP is among leaders who tirelessly campaigned for Nyong'o during campaigns in the run up to the August 8 polls. He is presently among vocal leaders in the county defending Kisumu residents at the slightest opportunity.
At county events where Nyong'o is absent Outa is always there representing him. He was also among top county official who were at the Kisumu International Airport laying a red carpet when Nyong'o jetted back into the country after a long medical break at the US.
2. Jared Okello.
He is soft spoken and is among new MPs from Nyanza to watch as 2022 beckons. He employs a hands-off tactic where he does not directly verbally attack opponents and is not rough when criticizing the county government.
The Nyando first time MP is learned, and also a close ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga. He is a top contender for the seat should the governor call it quits.
