Two middle-aged men were on Wednesday arraigned in a Thika court accused of stealing Sh280,000 from their employer.

Patrick Mukuru, 31, and his co-accused, Issac Murimi, 26, both from Makongeni in Thika appeared before the court chief magistrate Stephen Mbugi and pleaded innocent for the allegations.

The accused are said to have stolen the cash from Poly motors in Makongeni on April 19, this year, where they are employed as mechanics.

According to prosecutor Nancy Muthuri, the two broke into the cash docket of the company, after all workers had left the company where they pretended to be repairing an old vehicle.

Anthony Mungai, who is a security guard in the company, told the court how he suspected what the two accused were doing in the company during wee hours of the evening, and decided to check on the activity they were engaged in.

The guard found Mukuru repairing the wreckage of an old vehicle, while Murimi was inside the accountant’s room.

The guard reported the matter to the manager the next day, who authorized the accountant to audit the funds they had just to find Sh280,000 missing.

After interrogation by the company supervisors, the two completely denied the accusation, which led to the company reporting the matter to Makongeni police station, where the two were apprehended on April 20, 2015.

The two were released on a bond of Sh300,000 each, with an alternative cash bail of Sh200,000.

The case will be heard on July 29, 2015.
