Two middle aged men were on Thursday arraigned in court accused of killing a middle-aged man who owned an M-pesa shop in Thika.
James Muriuki, 33, in joint with Bernard Gichuhi, 31, who are hawkers in Thika town appeared before the resident magistrate and pleaded innocent.
The court heard that the accused committed the crime on Jan 10, 2015 in Kiandutu slums, after the arrival of the deceased from his work place and later went underground.
It was revealed that the two were in the process of stealing from Martin Muriithi, the shop owner, and are said to be close friends, and therefore had information about his whereabouts.
The prosecutor told the court that Muriuki and Gichuhi were apprehended on Jan 12, 2015 while roaming in Kiganjo shopping centre, where they were arrested and taken to Kiganjo police station.
According to Francis Muini one of the police officer who arrested them, the two had pleaded guilty after arrest and revealed that they used knives and sharp weapons to stab Muriithi, who they wanted to con Sh120,000, which he stashed in his briefcase.
The two agreed to have stolen the said cash from the deceased, but denied the allegations of butchering Martin.
The two will remain in police custody as police interrogate other crimes that the accused might be involved in.
The case will come for hearing on April 25 this year.
