James Kiragu, 23 and Jack Saitoti, 18 on Friday appeared before Naivasha Senior Resident Magistrate Shadrack Mwinzi on claims that on the night of March 6 2015 in Gilgil, they stole three cows belonging to Pauline Wambui Kariuki.

The Court was told that Wambui who lives in Gema Village had footsteps outside her house that night but did not imagine it would be anything serious.

However when she woke up in the morning she noticed that her cow shed had been broken into and three of her cows were missing.

She then raised an alarm attracting her neighbours who concluded that the animals had been stolen.

Five of them including her son searched for the cows while before they reported the matter to Gilgil Police Station.

The search team was informed at Gilgil Weighbridge that early in the morning the two accused had been seen driving the animals towards Naivasha town.

Officers on duty at the Hells Gate National Park intercepted the two suspects trespassing at the park with the cows after suspecting them to be thieves.

They were taken to Kongoni Police Station where they were further interrogated thereby disclosing to the officers that they had come from Gilgil.

Police at the Gilgil Police Station were immediately contacted and together with the complainant went to Kongoni police station where the complainant positively identified the cattle as hers.

The two were arrested and charged in Naivasha Court of Law.
