Residents were left in a rude shock after two men sold their father’s graveyard. The incident happened on Thursday in Miranga village, Bomariba, Kisii County.
It is alleged that the two brothers identified as Ososi and Onduko sold the land where their father was buried 9 years ago. Elders condemned the two men saying they will live to regret their decision to sell the land.
“This is total madness selling their father’s grave. They will never find peace in this world because the Gusii culture doesn’t allow someone to burial land,” said an elder Augustine Nyamote.
John Machoni, an uncle to the two men said Ososi and Onduko are chang’aa addicts who hardly take in advice from elders.
He said the buyer will not be allowed to cultivate or set up a structure on the piece of land because it is an abomination.
“We will not allow the buyer to occupy this land because we were not consulted when they were transacting. The two men are cursed and will never have peace in their entire lives,” said Machoni.
Areas assistant chief Benjamin Ayuma condemned the incident and said he was not informed of the transaction and the buyer will find elsewhere to buy but not in the village.
Ayuma warned residents against selling their land carelessly saying anyone found buying or selling land illegally will be arrested.
