People from both sides of the border particularly women, elderly and children are moving out of their homes, fearing possible attacks.

The displaced are currently camping at various evacuation centres including Achego AIC church, Songoh Post Office and at Oriwo Primary.

Kenya Red Cross Society volunteers led by West Kenya Regional Manager Mr Benson Simba are in the area undertaking an assessment to ascertain the exact number of people displaced in readiness for emergency response.

The team is also on standby within the locality in case of any emergency needs.

"Over 425 people camping at the Achego AIC church received relief non food items from the Kenya Red Cross Society response team, and the number is likely to increase following the reported overnight incident," said Mr Simba.

The items distributed include blankets, mosquito nets, soap, water purifiers, water jerricans and dignity kits.

The Red Cross Society is closely working with other government and non governmental agencies, in coordinating the response and relief activities in the area.
