Two motorbike riders have died at Makongeni market in Thika sub-county after their motorcycles collided head on with a speeding saloon car.
According to a witness, the two were speeding on their way to the stage to line up for clients when they met with a speeding saloon car along the Garissa highway.
The witnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the riders were on the wrong lane and did not give way to the oncoming car.
“They were speeding on the right hand lane at the junction. The car was oncoming on the same lane and speeding too," the witness explained.
Meanwhile, Thika traffic police base commander Francis Muthamia has issued a warning to motorists against speeding on the busy roads.
He said those motorists who do not have licences will soon be traced and arrested as only qualified motorists should be on the roads.
“We want only those who know the road rules and regulations. This is to reduce the accidents and death rates on the roads in this sub-county,” insisted Muthamia.
He was accompanied by his deputy commander Jackson Onyango.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Thika level five mortuary.
