With the Kenya Certicacate of Primary Education beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, two Garissa legislators have opposed the proposition by Kenya National Examination Council to have some candidates sit for their exams outside their registered centres.
Lagdera MP Mohamed Shidiye and his Dadaab counterpart Mohamed Dahir argued that candidates will be separated from their families, therefore disorienting them if moved to new centres.
“The candidates will be cut off from their parents. This will destabilize them,” Mohamed Shidiye told a local news outlet.
The duo further said that candidates must feel comfortable in the centres where they registered, and moving them will interfere with the environment they are used to.
They said that the candidates will struggle to adapt to the new centres, affecting their preparation, which would them impact negatively on their performance.
KNEC announced the move as a measure to curb exam cheating which rocked the country in the last year's examinations leading to cancellation of results.
