Two suspected individuals have been nabbed by security agencies in relation to two separate attacks witnessed in the region.
Northeastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh confirmed that the suspects are indeed in custody and being interrogated by multi agency security officers.
One of the suspect is believed to have taken part in an attack at the Liboi border in Garissa County where four civilians lost their lives.
The other suspect is said to have taken part in the killing of an administration officer in Omar Jillow in Mandera County.
The regional coordinator said that Al Shabaab is trying to remain relevant, and the latest Improvise Explosive Devices (IED) attacks in parts of Garissa and Mandera are its desperate attempts.
He ruled out any political involvements in the recent attacks but said that police are looking at all possibilities.
“For close to one year we have not experienced any kind of attacks because we changed our strategy in countering violence and members of the public have also been helpful by proving actionable information,” said Saleh.
