Two students from St Don Bosco in Nyamira County have a reason to smile after a local politician offered to offset their outstanding balances besides catering for their entire education till they sit for their KCSE exams.
The two, Winfrida Ongoi and Anorld Otuma, were identified as the most deserving following their consistent performance in their form one exams for two terms in a row, prompting a quick action from Mr Victor Swanya.
Swanya on Tuesday insisted his commitment to educate the vulnerable in the community and urged his fellow politicians top desist from politicising such philanthropic actions.
“I have gone through their record and it’s quite overwhelming. They truly deserve our support and because I am delighted, they will receive full scholarship from Swanya Foundation till they complete their education. Sometimes it is important to separate politics from social responsibilities,” he said.
Swanya, who is eyeing Kitutu Masaba constituency seat in the next general election, said he will increase the number of beneficiaries from his foundation to at least 300 following good will support from his friends residing outside Kenya.
“I have passion to serve young people who are less privileged and that are why I want to assure you that some good will Samaritans have promised to help me educate the vulnerable in the community. The Swanya Foundation will, therefore, increase its sponsorship from the current 200 students to 300 students,” he said.
