Governors Amason Kingi (Kilifi) and Hassan Joho (Mombasa) have remained loyal with Raila Odinga despite trying moments that the opposition leader is going through.
With pressure from both his family and international community to cancel his planned inauguration, Odinga has also seen key ODM leaders take a back seat in his quest.
Prior to last week's postponed swearing-in, Governors Josphat Nanok (Turkana), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) and a host of other leaders showed intent to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
But conspicuously absent from Council of Governors retreat, the two coastal leaders insisted that they only recognize Raila as president.
"As coast, we are keen to have Raila as president because he won genuinely in August,"Joho said when defending his absence from the ongoing retreat in Kwale.
On his part, Kingi said: "As the people of Coast, we shall push for self determination because we no longer think that the national government has our interest at heart."
On Sunday, the two leaders will host Odinga for the first rally that will give a road map for People's Assembly.
Already, both Mombasa and Kilifi county governments have passed the Bill that de-legitimizes President Kenyatta's leadership.
