National police spokesperson George Kinoti has said two police officers, a police Land Cruiser, police uniforms and guns are still missing, days after after Al-Shabaab fighters attacked Hamey police post in Garissa County.
"All police officers attached to the station have been accounted for except for two others. After the attack, one was airlifted to Nairobi for much specialised attention after suffering gunshots on his body. Two officers, a police vehicle, several guns and uniforms are however still missing," he revealed.
News outlets in Somalia on Saturday announced that the weapons, police uniforms and the police car were displayed by the attackers in Jilib Town in Somalia, just a day after the attack.
However, a state security official involved in the search of the two missing officers said they have received unconfirmed reports that the two are dead.
"We have been informed the bodies of the two officers were also displayed in Jilib town but we are yet to confirm. We are using local elders to get more information," said the source.
As this unfolds, more security officers have been deployed to patrol the area through aerial and ground surveillance even as the hunt on the gunmen continues with no success so far.
