Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i may after all be one of few ministers who shall survive President Uhuru Kenyatta's axe as he reorganizes his government.
In few weeks time, Uhuru and his Deputy William Ruto, shall unveil cabinet that would probably see some big names missing.
Moi political scientist Gideon Mamboleo says Matiang'i will be one of few ministers who appointment will be championed by both principals.
"For Uhuru, he needs to retain Matiang'i given his influence in the education sector given that the president is now focusing on legacy.
"And for Ruto, he needs an anchor within the Gusii community. The gains made by Matiang'i makes him a favourite for DP Ruto thus his appointment will be unanimous," he says.
Matiang'i was first appointed as ICT Minister in 2013 before being transferred to education where his achievements have been criticized and praised in equal measure.
Also acting as Interior Cabinet Secretary, Matiang'i also once doubled as Lands Minister when Uhuru reshuffled his cabinet.
