Deputy President William Ruto has welcomed former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto to the Jubilee Party.

Speaking at Kapkatet in Kericho County, the DP described the former NASA co-principal as his 'friend and brother' and praised him for reuniting with the party he ditched 3 years ago.

Ruto said the reunion with his erstwhile political rival was a symbol that the Kalenjin community was solidly united behind President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid.

"We want the whole world to know that Kalenjin community is united and will speak with one voice from now on," the DP said.

The former governor told the Standard that he decamped from the opposition alliance after realising Raila Odinga, NASA's presidential candidate, cannot defeat President Uhuru.

"60 per cent of Kenyans had voted for Uhuru on August 8. Only 30 per cent chose Raila," Ruto said.

The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) leader added: "My party will not be opposing the re-election of Uhuru. We have chosen to move in the direction of our voter base."

Ruto lost his governor seat to the former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso in the election conducted on August 8.
