Two men have received a life sentence or a fine of Sh 20 million each for being in possession of wildlife ivory.

The two, identified as George Njeru and Abdi Ibrahim were found guilty of possessing 130 KGS of ivory estimated at Sh12 million.The ruling was made by Kyuso resident magistrate John Aringo after they appeared before the court on Thursday.The culprits were arrested at Usueni location of Tseikuru sub-county in Kitui County on April 20, 2017.Cases of wildlife poaching have been on the rise in the recent past. For instance, in July 2016, a Mombasa court sentenced Ivory Kingpin Feisal Mohammed to 20 years in jail after he was found guilty of possessing ivory worth Sh44 million.Elsewhere, a Narok court ordered two men to pay Sh100 million for having Sh1.8 million poached ivory – or spend life in prison.The duo, Tiapukei Kuyoni and Munyao Nzusyo were sentenced for having and dealing in game trophies without a licence from the Kenya Wildlife Service.
