Two people were on Sunday shot and injured during an armed robbery at Witeithie Estate in Juja Sub-County.The thugs opened fire after they were accosted by irate residents who were responding to distress calls by the victims.It is alleged that the robbers who were armed with an AK 47 rifle and two pistols raided two M-PESA shops at around 8pm, making away with an unspecified amount of money."When the victims raised alarm, members of the public went to their rescue and confronted the criminals by throwing stones at them which prompted them to open fire. In the ensuing melee, two people were shot and injured. One was shot on the shoulder while the other was shot in the leg,” said Witeithie police boss Tirus Murimi.George Maina, 23, is said to have been hit in the leg by a stray bullet as he was heading home.He was taken to Thika Level 5 Hospital for treatment.Residents in the area have decried increased cases of insecurity in the area, urging police officers to launch an operation to flush out the criminals.Cases of armed robberies, especially those targeting M-PESA agents have been on the rise in the estate, with residents accusing police of laxity.
