Anne Achieng and David Kangethe, a shoe shop owner and an Equity agent operator respectively, were going about their evening business when two people riding on a motorbike fired at them on Thursday night.

Thika west OCPD Francis Muthamia, who briefed the press at the scene, last night said the robbers were armed with  a pistol that they used.

He said one of the deceased died on the spot while the other died on the way to hospital.

“A contingent of plain clothes police officers have been deployed at the market to help curb the rising crime in the area as well as identify the robbers who are said to be known by some residents of the area,” said the officer.

He added that no arrests have been made so far but the police have pledged to arrest the robbers by tracking them through their mobile phones as they forced the bank agent operator to deposit the money into their phone.

He further said security officials are aware there has been an escalating number of crime incidences in Thika in the past two weeks and are working to reverse the situation.

Several incidences of attacks by gun-wielding criminals have been reported in the last two weeks in the area leading to deaths.
