Two men of Somali descent have this morning been arraigned before a Gatundu Court charged with handling illegal weapons in Gathithi Village in Gatundu North Sub County.
The two have been jailed for three years each.
Hussein Muhammed, 27, and Abdikadir Suleiman, 33, were arrested on April 30, 2015 at Gathithi Shopping Centre after running on seeing the police.
Appearing before Resident Magistrate Anthony Kamonye, the two pleaded guilty to having a pistol but denied using it in committing crimes in the area.
Daniel Nyamiti, the Gatundu North District Commissioner and who is also a witness in the case told the court how the police on normal patrol came into contact with the suspects who ran on seeing them (police).
Prosecutor Beatrice Mumbi revealed that the pistol the two had was used an exhibit in the case filed against them.
Justice Kamonye ordered for the handing over of the pistol to the area OCPD Martin Mugo.
On mitigation, the two pleaded to have been selling items to Gathithi residents peacefully and that the pistol was only a protective gadget when chaos arise.
The court gave the two accused 14 days to appeal against the ruling.
