As the Kenya Certificate Primary Examination (KCPE) came to a close on Thursday, two students were charged before a Kabarnet Court with exam malpractices.

The two boys aged 15 and 14 were facing charges of impersonation after the first accused, a Form one student of Kapngetuny Secondary School in Marigat was arrested after he was found writing a KCPE paper for a pupil at Kimalel Day and Boarding Primary School.

The court heard that the two committed the crime on November 1, 2017, when the 15-year-old boy, a former pupil of the school, pretended to be a candidate.

The incident occurred on Wednesday just as pupils were about to sit the science paper.

The second accused who is a registered candidate at the school was charged with allowing another person to sit for his science paper on his behalf.

The first accused pleaded guilty to the charges saying that he wanted to do the examination paper for the second accused who denied the charges before the court.

The prosecution counsel requested for mental and age assessments before the case of the two students could proceed.

Resident Magistrate Nerolyne Idagwa ordered for the two to be remanded at Kabarnet police station until their parents presented themselves.

The case will be mentioned on November 30.

Kimalel school head teacher Mr. Kipkosiom Chepkerich said the impersonator entered the examination room through a window while the other candidates were seated.
