Two suspected criminals have been arrested on the road to Nairobi after police officers got a tip-off from members of the public.
Speaking to reporters in his office, Kisumu County police commandant Nelson Njiru on Friday said that police recovered a gun during the incident.
"This morning at 8:45am we followed intelligence report about criminals who have been terrorising residents in Kisumu. We were successful to catch up with them and arrest two suspected criminals," said Njiru.
He added: "During the incident we recovered one pistol. We are doing investigations to find out whether they have committed other offences in this area and how we can connect them."
Njiru said the police accompanied suspects the better part of the day to collect information before taking them to court.
"We are grateful with the effort of members of the public [in helping apprehend the suspends]. Such breakthrough could not have happened if they didn't tip off the police," he said.
"They passed this information in confidence and we were able to react very fast using the intelligence. It will go a long way to bring peace to Kisumu town."
Since February, police have recovered four real guns and several fake ones.
The commandant encouraged members of the public to bring forward information to help police arrest criminals.
