Police in Mbaraki, Mombasa on Tuesday morning shot dead two suspected criminals who were reportedly armed with a sword, a panga and a toy gun.
Mombasa Urban police OCPD Eliud Monari, confirmed the incident, saying the suspected criminals attacked and seriously injured a night guard near Mbaraki Cemetery before officers who were on patrol in the area were alerted.
Addressing the press, Monari said the suspects declined to surrender to the police and started fleeing before being shot dead after which a panga, a sword and a toy gun were recovered.
One suspect escaped on foot and the police have launched manhunt for him.
"The officers found the watchman unconscious with injuries on his forehead," said Monari.
The OCPD indicated that the two suspects have been on the police wanted list for being involved in several criminal activities across Mombasa within the past two weeks.
Bodies of the two were taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary for identification.
